Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that Japanese starlet Ryo Miyaichi could be set for a domestic loan spell as the youngster seeks more playing time to further his development.
The emergence of 18-year old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has provided Wenger with more-than-enough options on the wings, which means that the 19-year old Miyaichi will need to look elsewhere to increase his football activity.
“I will have a chat with him tomorrow and I have a little plan. Oxlade-Chamberlain plays on the flanks now too, so if I can find an opportunity for him (Miyaichi) to play somewhere, I will decide whether to do that tomorrow,” Wenger told the Gunners’ official website.
The boss added: “It will have to be in England because he will lose the homegrown [status] if he leaves the country.”
Given that many of Arsenal’s current young stars such as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere rose to prominence with loan spells away from the club, loaning Myaichi out could indeed be a great move before the transfer window closes.
However, with no new faces set to arrive at the Emirates, the depth and quality of Wenger’s current squad has been questioned yet again.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman maintains that the club’s recent disappointments will provide sufficient motivation to come out victorious in the race for a top-four finish.
“Last year was a learning process. We went for four trophies and in February we were still in all four. When we had to play the Carling Cup final we were a bit nervous because we hadn’t delivered, but they have learnt from that. Hopefully we can show it this year,” Wenger concluded.
The first chance for the Gunners to prove their credentials by ending a three-match Premier League slide will come at Bolton on Wednesday evening.
