Sir Alex can't explain 'devastating' loss
Fergie questions Anfield result | Sir Alex Ferguson does not concede that Liverpool were deserved winners in their 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday and the Scot believes that the league champions should still be in the FA Cup based on the performance at Anfield.
United fought back from a goal down as Ji-Sung Park equalized Daniel Agger’s headed opening goal at Merseyside but it was all in vain for the visitors as Dirk Kuyt scored late to ensure progress for the hosts.
Fergie, who referred to Liverpool as United’s biggest rivals in the build-up to the fixture, is in no mood to acknowledge the Reds’ superiority in the two clubs’ most recent clash.
“I don’t know how we lost it. It was a really good performance from us,” Sir Alex stated in an interview with MUTV.
He added: “That can happen in the FA Cup though – you can have one bad break against you and you lose the game. It’s a sudden death situation which we’ve experienced many times over the years and anything can happen.
“It’s a bad blow, though, because we didn’t deserve that. I’m pleased with my players. They performed very well, dominated the game and played good football,” added Sir Alex.
“We maybe should have won the game – we were the better team. But that’s FA Cup football I’m afraid and it’s not the first time it’s happened. To lose it is a devastating blow.”
Manchester United are now out of both domestic cup competitions, having already been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in December.
They are now focused on successfully defending their Premier League title, with Stoke City the next opponent tomorrow night. Of course, there is also hope for some form of European glory given their entry into the Europa League.

Ur coach is going senile and isn’t sure who his best 11 is anymore. I also noticed that Liverpools first team players in Suarez, Glen Johnson, Lucas, Adam and Bellamy didn’t start the game either. United secured another excellent treble this season. Out of the Champions League, Carling Cup and FA Cup :) Well done.
