Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has urged the Stamford Bridge crowd to seek inspiration from the club’s traveling support at Loftus Road on Saturday to change the anxious vibe at the Blues’ home ground.
The West Londoners were nearly unbeatable at home not too long ago but have appeared extremely vulnerable under Villas-Boas, who is hoping that the recent return to form improves the atmosphere at the Bridge.
“We had good support throughout the game, important for us,” Villas-Boas stated about the vocal backing of the Blues faithful in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Queens Park Rangers.
The gaffer added: “It is the environment we want to transfer to Stamford Bridge, which is much more anxious. Away it is more supportive and helps the players feel better.”
While Villas-Boas emphasized his satisfaction at a focused football display from both teams amid controversial circumstances, he was particularly impressed with the energy and discipline of his side.
“I think the team that we showed today was the team that has been competing extremely well in training. Everyone has been up a level on the winter trip [to Mallorca], and we had to make a decision for the starting 11 – it (the competition) was strong,” AVB asserted.
“To be fair, this January we have shown we have organized ourselves a little better in defence, not conceding so many goals, and it is repaying us,” he concluded.
Chelsea head to Swansea on Tuesday, hoping to maintain or increase their five-point advantage over Arsenal in the race for Champions League qualification.
As for Stamford Bridge, the Blues will play there next against defending Premier League champions Manchester United on February 5.
