Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has publicly slammed Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin following Sunday’s match at the Emirates.
Neville, now in his role as a Sky Sports pundit, was critical of Arsene Wenger’s decision to sub the effervescent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, especially as the struggling Arshavin replaced him.
“Arshavin looks the most disinterested player in the league. He doesn’t like our weather. He doesn’t like our women,” Neville critiqued. “I think he wants to go back to Russia. Well, go back. The Arsenal fans don’t want him out there.”
“I think Arsenal are going to find it very tough to get in the Champions League and five years ago you never would have dreamed that Arsenal wouldn’t be in the top four in this league.”
While captain Robin van Persie insisted that he was not questioning his manager’s decision, Neville also commented on the facial reaction of the Dutchman that cameras picked up.
“I know Arsene Wenger knows his players a lot better than we do but it did look a strange substitution when you look at the way the crowd reacted to it, the captain reacted to it – we weren’t the only ones,” said the former Manchester United captain.
“If the captain’s reacting like that it’s a bigger problem for Arsene Wenger than us sat in the studio thinking it’s strange.”
Is Neville right in his criticism of Arshavin? Should the Russian be sold? Have your say below!
