Bolton set for American signing

By | 24th January 2012

Bolton Wanderers are set to unveil the signing of defender Tim Ream after the US international was granted a work permit yesterday.

Ream has been impressive for both the United States national team and club side Red Bull New York, and will replace the departed Gary Cahill at the Reebok.

The 24-year old had been training with the Premier League outfit since the end of the Major League Soccer season, and boss Owen Coyle didn’t hide his interest in the defender.

“We are very close to bringing in a replacement [for Cahill],” Coyle said when Ream started training with his side.

“Tim Ream is a terrific young player but at the same time we need to be respectful to New York Red Bulls and the MLS while we wait.

“Do we want to bring him to the club? Yes, he has impressed us but we need to apply for a work permit.”

Ream will be joining fellow countryman Stuart Holden at the Reebok Stadium, with Tim Howard at nearby Everton.

Will Ream be a success at Bolton? Can they stay up even after the departure of Gary Cahill? Have your say below!
