Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has called on his players to fight for their spots in his side. Talented players like Steven Pienaar and Niko Kranjcar have seen limited action for Spurs this season, but Redknapp insists that the second half of the season will give them ample opportunities to impress both him and fans.
Redknapp specifically discussed the fortunes of South African international Steven Pienaar, who has had a bad string of injuries since arriving at White Hart Lane from Everton.
“Players like Pienaar and (Niko) Kranjcar are good players and they can get in the team,” Redknapp said. “You saw on Saturday that they have quality and they have a big part to play between now and the end of the season.
“Pienaar is a good lad and he is in the running to play on Wednesday now that he has got a game under his belt.
“With Pienaar the problem has been his injuries,” he added. “He has never really got up and running. He seems to have injury after injury.
“He was one of their main players at Everton and it has been a difficult year for him.”
Spurs are flying high in the Premier League at their season’s midway point. The North London outfit find themselves just three points back of defending champions Manchester United with a game in hand. League leaders Manchester City are only six points ahead of Redknapp’s team.
