Fernando Torres has slammed critics constantly rip apart his patchy form for Chelsea by insisting that a European and World Cup winner deserves more respect.
Torres, who moved to the Blues at the beginning of the calendar year, has since scored only three times in 25 appearances – a statistic that has been received particularly well at former club Liverpool.
Reds fans have almost unanimously turned their backs on the man who once scored 65 goals for the Merseyside outfit, accusing him of greed and disloyalty.
To worsen his misery, the Spaniard has seen his new side beaten in all of the three meetings with Kenny Dalglish’s men since his departure from Anfield.
However, in a defiant interview ahead of Chelsea’s fixture away to the Spurs this evening, Torres has hit back by claiming that the hatred from Liverpool fans lacks perspective and that doubts from all other circles will also be addressed soon.
“Liverpool fans don’t know the truth about why I signed for Chelsea. The fans don’t even know half of what happened. They don’t know what the people in charge at Liverpool are like – they have a completely different perception of what they are like,” Torres told Canal + Liga.
The 27-year old added: “They made promises that they didn’t keep and I left because I realised I didn’t have time to be part of a project that would take years. I have nothing against the Liverpool fans.
“I didn’t want to leave Liverpool the way I did but the club lied. I was let down and I don’t understand why the fans hate me.”
Transitioning to his most recent struggle for form, which has seen him out of starting action in the Premier League for over a month, he explained: “I am going to try to be very humble and get back into the Chelsea starting line-up.
“My form has not been good but I am world and European champion and I deserve more respect. It’s hard being on the bench but I respect the players who are playing. I’m going to support the team and get back in. It’s up to me to go back to being the striker I was before.”
A win over the Spurs at White Hart Lane tonight will allow Torres and his teammates to leapfrog their opponents into third place.

hurrrrrrrrrrr durrrrrrrrrrr
I am not sure what the think of this article…Torres believes he deserves more respect, and I generally agree with this, however, I feel not that much more. Torres is a striker so he is judged off of his goals (whether that is fair or not is a different discussion), but for not scoring goals, his other play is decent and I believe that is why he feels he deserves more respect. BUT, he does need to score more goals in my opinion. Go Torres!
Torres take this from me straight,it shall be well.
Torres, u’re truely a world class striker and need to be respected. Be cool headed and work hard. U can still be the Torres of old and even get better.
