On-loan AC Milan midfielder Alberto Aquilani believes it is highly unlikely that he will return to parent club Liverpool, given the simplicity involved in his release clause.

Italian champions Milan secured a loan deal for Aquilani this summer after Juventus, who had loaned him from the Reds last season, could not reach an agreement regarding the permanent signing of the player.

Aquilani was notably brilliant in maintaining his professionalism throughout an uncertain off-season at Merseyside and although he remains puzzled about the unreasonably high price tag initially placed on him by the Reds, the Italian always knew that the primary purpose of his Juve spell was to prove himself all over again.

“I did not expect to be bought by Juventus, the price set by Liverpool [€16 million] was too high. Juve was an opportunity and I have used it well,” the 27-year old told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He added with humility: “It was a critical step in my career as after Liverpool I needed to play continuously. Maybe if I had not gone to Juventus I would not be at AC Milan.”

In his first season with Liverpool, Aquilani’s progress was marred by long spells on the sidelines but when he returned following a successful spell in Italy, he appeared to be a massive prospect for Kenny Dalglish’s new-look midfield.

However, the Reds overlooked his tremendous playmaking potential, insisting that domestic talent such as Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson were better suited to their formation despite extremely hefty price tags attached to them.

As far as his own price tag is concerned, Aquilani is relieved that this time, it will be well within the reach of his Italian club as long as he can make 16 more appearances to add to his current nine showings this season.

“There is a buyout fee set at €6 million [£5.2 million] and it is activated after 25 games. I feel more assured. You can never say no to Milan. I have always had the hope of becoming a Rossoneri player,” he concluded.

Aquilani’s agent Franco Zavalia followed up by describing the Liverpool’s release clause as a formality.

“The option to define the permanent deal with AC Milan can surely be described as a formality because the player will reach the parameters written on the agreement between AC Milan and Liverpool. Alberto is doing well and I think this is the case in the eyes of everyone,” the Italian midfielder’s representative asserted.

Ahead of their highly anticipated match against Chelsea this weekend, Liverpool were also criticized by former striker Fernando Torres for the manner in which they portrayed the circumstances surrounding his transfer to the Blues.

Never understood this Aquilani saga but know one thing he is a better player than Henderson and Adam.
