Giants set for Carling Cup face-off

Thrilling draws await in the quarters

By | 29th October 2011

The Carling Cup will continue to be a valued competition this season as four of the five favorites have been drawn against each other in the quarterfinals, which will be played during the week of November 28.

Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester City have been drawn against last season’s beaten finalists Arsenal, who will hope to successfully continue their road to redemption following the painful 1-0 loss to Birmingham City in February.

While the Gunners’ decision to mix more experienced players with their emerging youngsters has looked promising thus far in the competition, welcoming the unstoppable Citizens to the Emirates will pose unprecedented difficulty.

Having beaten last season’s Premier League runners-up Chelsea 5-3 away from home on the day of the quarterfinal draw will certainly provide a boost to their confidence, though.

Speaking of Chelsea, they will reignite their rivalry will Liverpool when they host the Reds at Stamford Bridge.

While the Blues have suffered a dip in form following back-to-back derby defeats against QPR and Arsenal, the Reds look to be in promising form, playing well in their last few outings against the likes of Stoke City, Manchester United, and West Bromwich Albion.

Reigning English champions United will play Crystal Palace at Old Trafford while top-flight strugglers Blackburn will travel to Wales to play Cardiff City in what could possibly be a preview of a Championship match between the two sides next season.
