Wesley Sneijder has revealed that former Inter boss Jose Mourinho told him to snub a move to Old Trafford and continue to build his career at Inter Milan.
The Dutch international attracted massive interest from both the Manchester clubs, with United reportedly coming closed to sealing the deal on numerous occasions before it all fell apart at the closing of the summer transfer window.
Sneijder believes that from Inter’s standpoint, the sale of Samuel Eto’o played a part in stopping the club from furthering negotiations over the sale of another major star.
However, from a personal standpoint, he has revealed that Mourinho – who led Inter to a treble in the 2009-10 season before joining Real Madrid – advised him against leaving the Nerazzuri.
“Mourinho called me and he told me to stay. He has an Inter heart and he has always told me to remain,” Sneijder stated in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
With the Euro 2012 qualifiers arriving immediately after the conclusion of summer transfers, Sneijder quickly shifted his focus to the international scene and ended speculation over his club future by insisting that he is happy at Inter.
However, speculation is rife that the player will seek a move to the Barclays Premier League when the transfer window re-opens in January.
