Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has signed a world record breaking £345,000 per week deal at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. The former Inter Milan striker was signed by the Russian side this week in a £22 million transfer, but his wages alone will set them back much more.
According to The Sun, Eto’o's pay packet leaves him earning £345,000 per week after taxes, which is a staggering amount for a 30 year old, and makes him the highest earning footballer in the world. Nevertheless, the Russian club can afford it after being bought by Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov.
“Today an agreement was reached between the football clubs, Anzhi and Inter, for the transfer of Samuel Eto’o.
“The terms of the transfer are completely agreed on both sides,” said the club’s official website yesterday.
“Anzhi expresses gratitude to the leadership of Inter Milan for their professional and constructive approach in the negotiations.
“Tomorrow the player will undergo a medical examination, following which the player will be awarded a three-year contract.
“On Thursday, Samuel will arrive at the location of his new team and will begin preparations for the match against FC Rostov.”
The former Champions League winner will now join up with the likes of former Chelsea winger Yuri Zhirkov and Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos as they aim to win this year’s Russian league title.
