Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has outright revealed to reporters that he is indeed for sale this summer, putting Manchester United and crosstown rivals Manchester City on red alert. The two clubs have long been linked with a move for the World Cup runner-up, and after a summer of allegedly failed bids, Sneijder claims he’s ready to move on at the right price.
“All I know is that Inter need money and that I’m for sale if the right offer comes in. I have five days off after the international friendly against England on Wednesday. I expect clarity on my future by then,” Sneijder said to Voetbal International.
Many reports in the British media made it appear as if Sneijder’s move to Old Trafford was imminent weeks ago, but since then City have jumped into the chase for the midfielder. Nevertheless, Sneijder is adamant that he has not spoken to either side.
“I can be very brief about the interest from Manchester United and City: I haven’t spoken with either of those two clubs, so I can’t really say much about my future at the moment,” he revealed.
At 27 years of age, many members of the media believe that it would take a fee of around €40 million to prize Sneijder away from the San Siro.
