Recently relegated Birmingham started their new life in the nPower Championship today with an opening day defeat at the hands of Derby County. Former Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies appeared to have given the visitors the perfect start as he scored in the 19th minute, but less than ten minutes later Jason Shackell equalizer for Derby.

Ultimately it was Steve Davies’ 42nd minute goal that clinched the three points for Derby, defeating a side that boasts Premier League veterans such as Steven Caldwell, Liam Ridgewell, and Stephen Carr.

The result won’t bother Birmingham fans too much, though, as they still have the Europa League to look forward to and a long and grueling season ahead.

Birmingham next take on Coventry City at St. Andrews Stadium in their first Championship match at home since 2009. After that they’ll travel to Portugal to take on CD Nacional de Madeira in the Europa League play-off round.

Will Birmingham bounce right back up to the Premiership? Tell us your thoughts below!

No they won’t come straight back. In fact, they have more chance going straight down to League 1.

HAHA!! I game in, and a game we were unlucky to lose and the Mcginger posse fan has his lips flappin!!
Its a long season and we have 3 strikers out, which if they were playing we would have won the game, so we will see who is laughing at the end of the season, enjoy your dull, boring, lifeless style of play this season, “IN MCGINGER WE TRUST”, and enjoy your relegation next season, because we will!!

      KRO!! SOTV!!
