Big name lined up as Cesc's replacement?  | read this item

Following the latest development in the Cesc Fabregas transfer saga, which suggests that Arsenal are finally ready to negotiate the sale of their skipper to Barcelona, speculation is rife about the identity of a big-name replacement being targetted by manager Arsene Wenger.

In the past, Wenger has been known to prefer developing young players rather than buying immediate replacements for former stars such as Thierry Henry and Mathieu Flamini.

While many expect that this season will be no different, with youngsters Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey ready to shoulder additional responsibility following the prospective departure of Fabregas, Footybunker.com is now reporting that the Gunners are strongly interested in making a £22 million swoop for controversial Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery.

Ribery, who rose to fame with his international performances for France a few years ago, performed at an exceptional level in his first two seasons at Bayern but endured a nightmarish last season as injuries and a scandal involving an under-age prostitute rocked the further development of his career.

Nevertheless, the player recently stated that with his best days ahead of him, he can match the level of the reigning FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi.

Besides, Wenger may not need too much convincing as the Frenchman has already been an admirer of his compatriot. In fact, the Gunners were heavily linked with the 28-year old in 2007 but a reported refusal to match Bayern’s massive €25 million bid led the former Marseille player to move to Bavaria.

With the Gunners set to receive a hefty transfer fee from Barca if an agreement is reached over the sale of Fabregas, signing Ribery for the reported £22 million is not only poised to be a bargain, but also possibly an upgrade.

  1. Ribery will add not only to the midfield, but to the attacking option. Nasri,Wilshere and Ramsey will be the engine, only for Frank to do his own as he will support the main attacker. he can also be used as the main striker in certain time….

  2. liam says:

  5. Kenny says:

Wy can’t taget a youngest star player bcs i prefer youngest than hold player

  6. Kenny says:

In few, i think if wenger want player 2 replacement fabrigas is not rebery bcs is 2 hold

  7. Ezekiel says:

I dnt think wenger shoul consider Ribery as fabregas replacement when there ar players like hazard nd modric

  8. hassan says:

i think jack aaran nasri the best team arsenal center hope we win a league

  9. Ola Faniyi says:

Let’s wait and see. Fabregas going, we need a perfect player in.

  10. Jim says:

I’m not sure Ribery, as a winger could be considered as a replacement for Cesc. If Wenger really wanted to get a ready made stand in then he’d go after Eden Hazard or Mario Götze. Ribéry has been off the boil for a while now and I can’t see Arsenal paying his huge wages either.

I can’t see anyone being brought in for Fábregas as it seems likely that Nasri, Wilshere and Ramsey will be relied on for creativity.
