West Brom target CL winner in shock signing

By | 11th July 2011

West Brom could make one of the shock signings of the summer as Roy Hodgson contemplates a risky move for free agent Owen Hargreaves. The hard-working midfielder saw his contract expire at Manchester United last month, and since then has been on a strict fitness regime in a bid to find top form once again.

Hargreaves was instrumental in the Red Devils’ Champions League triumph in 2008, but since then has been hit hard with injury after injury. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the club would let him go at the end of the season, with many experts worried about the slim chances of Hargreaves ever returning to his previous self.

Now, the Daily Express is reporting that West Brom boss Roy Hodgson is set to make a move for the midfielder. If Hargreaves could remain fit and return to top form few would doubt the transfer, but currently the move would present a significant amount of risk.

To prove his fitness, Hargreaves has been posting daily videos to YouTube showing his training progress. His most recent video, on the 5th of July, pictured him handling the ball and shooting on a small net. As of yet he has had a shortage of suitors, but would likely welcome a return to the Premier League.
