Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has shockingly announced his decision to refrain from signing any striker by Monday’s January transfer deadline.
Redknapp, who has been linked with the likes of Newcastle’s Andy Carroll and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Forlan, told Sky Sports that he is content with his squad, particulalry given how difficult it is to improve in terms of his current attacking options.
“There’s no chance, I wouldn’t have thought. I’m not unhappy with the strikers we’ve got,” said Redknapp, who completed the signing of Steven Pienaar from Everton earlier this month.
Insisting that some of his unsettled forwards, even want-away Irishman Robbie Keane, are more preferable than a desperation signing, he added: “Who’s going to loan us a top player – someone who is better than (Roman) Pavlyuchenko, (Peter) Crouch or (Robbie) Keane? Liverpool are not going to loan (Fernando) Torres to us are they, and Chelsea won’t loan (Didier) Drogba.”
Although this development is likely to lower the speculation surrounding Redknapp’s search for a striker, it could just as well be an attempt at pursuing his primary target in a low-key manner.
It is important to remember that at the very end of the summer transfer deadline a few months ago, the Spurs sealed the deal for talismanic midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart.
Given the likelihood of Keane’s impending departure, it won’t come as a surprise is a new striker does end up arriving at White Hart Lane within the next 72 hours.
Meanwhile, Spurs faithful can enjoy watching their team play Fulham in an exciting FA Cup fixture tomorrow evening at Craven Cottage.

we have loaned out the deadwood.its because nobody would put up the money for them.now we know why we didnt buy.levy said sell and you can use the money to buy.we didnt sell.
Bendtner is rubbish. He has nothing to his game.
Now Keane has gone i expect a striker to be signed. Harry always pretends nothings going on when it is. Hopefully another ace up his sleeve as god we need it.
For the pav lovers out there I wish you would stop deluding yourselves stating he is a proven goal scorer. 9 goals in 23 matches this season is not prolific and he offers nothing to the team, he is the laziest striker i have seen at spurs, if he had the talent like Berba to get away with it then ok but he doesnt.
CROUCH / DEFOE BOTH ARE CRAP BETWEEN THEM THE RATIO MISSES HAS GOT TO BE HUGH WHY DOES HARRY PERSIST IN PLAYING THEM , AND DON`T SAY THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BECAUSE THERE IS PAV NEVER GETS A DECENT RUN THAT DEFOE GETS ! KRANJAR WOULD OFFER MORE THAN CROUCH AND INDEED SOME OF OUR SO CALLED GREAT SIGNINGS OF 3 / 4 YEARS BACK WHO WERE CALLED PLAYERS FOR THE FUTURE THEY MUST BE WELL MATURED BY NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oohh, i must say i am shocked!!! harry dont know what he is doing. he tok over a good team and made them work as a team. but he always stick with what he knows. crouch, defoe, kabou, kranjcar, ect. he has the same players everywere! and i belive we will sign joe cole, because he once had talent. and bale is going to be a LB, or he is sold. so old arry can spend some rediculus money on some of his has been “friends”.
what a joke of a comment. And BTW we have had a £23m bid for Carroll turned down so I think he knows what we need!!
Sign Nicholas Bendtner the guy is a workaholic and a top striker too who works his nuts off in every game he plays, reminds me of Mark Falco, always doing the runs in the channels to geton the end of things. Ok he is an arsenal reject but he could shine at Spurs
Are you serious, the guy is useless. Have you seen the chances he misses? And the amount of them? I’m delighted whenever he play for the Goons, more chance of them losing.
If he did say that the man is a dope of the highest order.
What is going on redknapp!! We need a striker, defoe is off form at the mo, and the rest of the are appalling. Crouch can be kept for CL cause he seems to do a good job against teams on the continent but get rid of keane and pavy and get in someone please…. anyone!! Would take back mido at the mo!!
Pav has scored 5 goals having started very few games and you’d get rid?
Ridiculous, isn’t it? I don’t understand why Harry persists with crouch, pav atleast puts the ball in the back of the net
Simply because nobody has bought one of our strikers so we can’t sign one, we have to get the wages off the bill first so we can pay them. Only allowed 25 players too.
