Manchester City center-half Vincent Kompany has seen enough to predict that £27 million signing Edin Dzeko will make a major impact at the Eastlands club.

Dzeko, 24, scored 66 goals in 111 appearances for German Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and could have opened his scoring record for City as well in a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa over the weekend.

However, Darren Bent – Gerard Houllier’s massive January signing – stole the show with the decisive goal and dented the Citizens’ title dreams in the process.

As far as Kompany is concerned, though, Dzeko has all the ingredients needed to guide Roberto Mancini’s men in the right direction as he has managed to keep opposing defenders busy despite missing a golden opportunity to score the equalizer at Villa Park.

“He won’t be affected by it (a goalless start). It happens – strikers miss and defenders concede and if you keep working hard you are one step closer to doing your job perfectly,” said the Belgian international

He added: “I have seen good signs of Edin adapting already, but it’s not easy, especially as he has come at a part of the season which is full-on and games are so important.

“But he has done some very good stuff already, against Wolves and again on Saturday. If we are seeing that now, we can expect some very good stuff from him in the future.”

Like Dzeko, Kompany also played in the Bundesliga before making the switch to the City of Manchester Stadium two years ago.

Having been there before, the former Hamburg defender acknowledges that the playing style in Germany is as close as it gets to the otherwise unparalleled intensity of English football.

“The Bundesliga is a completely different league. Nothing compares to the speed and power of the Premier League. It is unequalled in Europe, though Germany is probably the closest,” he concluded.

Dzeko, Kompany, and the rest of the City squad won’t be playing Premier League football this month anymore as they have already played more games than their title rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

Their next fixture will be away to Birmingham City who are a difficult opposition at home despite battling relegation.
