Arsenal midfielder Denilson has been questioned all week about the manner in which he recently challenged the leadership of teammate Cesc Fabregas. The youngster was quoted as telling the media in his native Brazil that the Gunners’ skipper was not the ideal leader for the club.
Although the player immediately reacted by clarifying matters with Fabregas the same day as Arsenal traveled for an FA Cup fixture at Leeds, the situation remains a talking point. Speaking to Arsenal’s official matchday program before the 3-0 home win over Wigan Athletic this weekend, Denilson provided yet another clarification to put the matter to rest.
“I want to tell everyone that I never said that Cesc Fabregas is a bad captain. I never spoke about him (like that) because I like him and respect him, as I do all of the players,” said the 22-year old.
He added: “I basically said that we have 25 players who should all take responsibility – I never talked about Cesc as captain. Unfortunately the papers like to change things. More important than that is to be together as a club. I respect Cesc, all the players and the staff too because we are all working for the same thing.”
Indeed, Cesc and the rest of the Gunners certainly appear to be on the same page as Denilson since they won 3-1 at Elland Road just a few hours after the Brazilian’s controversial interview.
However, for the season to ultimately end in success, Denilson has urged every member of the squad to keep up the winning mentality and prove that they are more than just an exciting bunch of prodigies.
In order to facilitate the process, he has started out by taking accountability for his own development. He has always described himself as a shy individual but he realizes the importance of exhibiting more confidence moving forward.
“This is a very young team, but we have quality, and we are in a very good position. Look at Chelsea – they have many experienced players but they are below us in the table. Cesc is the captain, and I respect him, but I think every single player needs to take responsibility on the pitch too.
“Me personally, I need to continue to work to improve as well. If we want to win this is what we have to do,” he concluded.

All i can say is an advice to the Arsenal players that regardless of the comments of our Captain lets focus on winning and bringing the trophies to Emirates and don’t point fingers on ones merit and eligibility to be a captain of Arsenal. He leads by Example and no need to change captaincy.
