Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has praised his club teammates after their historic 1-0 victory over Chelsea this weekend. The Citizens have been discussed as potential title challengers this season, but after a strong display against Carlo Ancelotti’s defending champions their Premier League campaign gained new momentum.
“It was a big win, an important win and showed that Chelsea is a team that can be beaten just like any other,” Toure said to The Daily Mail.
“We have now beaten Liverpool and Chelsea at home so it shows that we are developing as a unit. It was very hard work out there but the kind of game players enjoy.
“The midfield was crowded at times but we didn’t back down from the challenges and all our players could be pleased with their contribution,” he continued.
“Now we have to show more consistency. We have a lot of injuries but we have a strong enough squad to keep pace with the top sides.”
Following their win over Chelsea, City sit just four points back on the league leaders. They face another difficult challenge this Thursday when they take on Juventus in the Europa League before they resume league action at home against Newcastle United on Sunday, October 3.
