Is the infamous injury list at the Emirates finally shrinking?

Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby is on course to make his return against West Bromwich Albion in tomorrow afternoon’s key fixture for Arsene Wenger’s men.

Almost two weeks ago, the Frenchman injured his ankle in the Gunners’ 4-1 win at home to 10-men Bolton Wanderers. It is only fitting that Diaby is now looking forward to making a comeback at the same venue pending, of course, a fitness test later today.

Although Wenger’s men are enjoying an unbeaten start to the season, last weekend’s disappointing draw at Sunderland once again exposed the club’s injury problems to blame.

Tomas Rosicky, who checked in as an early substitute for skipper Cesc Fabregas, had to take the second half penalty that would have given the North Londoners a commanding 2-0 lead but as a result of finding himself in an unfamiliar position, he failed to convert.

The visitors were made to pay dearly for the miss as the Black Cats snatched the late equalizer but more importantly, the injury to Fabregas meant that immediate cover was needed.

While Diaby’s imminent return should certainly provide a boost, Rosicky is now a doubt himself with ankle problems while Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Eboue will also face a late fitness test on his knee.

As Wenger confirmed during his press conference yesterday, Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen will miss the next two games and Kieran Gibbs is also certain to miss after limping out of the midweek’s emphatic Carling Cup win away to the Spurs.

In the attacking department, Arsenal are already suffering from the long term absences of Dutchman Robin van Persie and emerging Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner.
