Striker insists Milan is better than Barca  | read this item

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who began his second spell at the San Siro after falling out with manager Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, claims that it was irresistable to decline an offer from a club that has a superior history to Barcelona.

Despite speculation linking him away from Catalunya for months, the Swede remained vocal about his commitment to cementing a place in Barca’s line-up before an approach from the Rossoneri convinced him that it was the right time to move.

Having played only one season in Spain, Ibra will now be plying his trade in the Serie A – a league where he developed into one of Europe’s elite strikers – for at least another year before Milan make a decision on turning his loan deal into a permanent €24 million move.

Speaking of his expectations for the new season, Ibrahimovic discussed the prospect of becoming a winner with his new club ahead of their disappointing 2-0 defeat at Cesena on Saturday.

“No player can say no to Milan. There’s nothing much to think about, you just say yes and thank the club. I think Milan are greater than Barcelona if you look at the history. I don’t know what the problem was at Barcelona, but Berlusconi convinced me to come here,” said the former Juventus and Inter Milan striker.

The 28-year old added: “I spoke to him twice and he said many important things. It convinced me. I was already ready, before the clubs agreed. Galliani then came to Barcelona and he said to me ‘I won’t go back to Milan without you’.”

In regards to the highly anticipated Milan derby, Ibrahimovic bullishly remarked: “I can’t wait to play against Inter. I had a great time at Barcelona and Inter, but Inter are the opposition and I cannot wait for the derby. This year’s Serie A is between two clubs: Milan and Inter. But we will finish first and they will finish second.”

“Now I am a Milan player. I don’t care what Inter have been saying. Milan is my future. We are complete now and have a great mentality. We are favourites to win the Scudetto now. I won at Inter, but now I am here to win. I hope I can do better here compared to what I did at Juventus and Inter. We will make sure the fans enjoy the season,” he concluded.
