Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton has dismissed reports that Steven Taylor won’t be playing again for the club.

The 24-year old defender, who has always been a Magpie, was made available for transfer last month after contract negotiations came to a halt between the two parties.

Subsequently, he was sidelined with a shoulder injury and failed to secure a transfer away from St. James’ Park. While he is at least five weeks away from full recovery, Hughton is already waiting for him to return to training.

Insisting that the former England U-21 skipper still has a part to play at Tyneside, Hughton told the Chronicle: “As far as Steven is concerned, we are still looking at about five weeks or so. We’ll continue to assess his situation like we would with any injury. He still has a part to play for Newcastle.”

The Magpies have picked up four points from their opening three Premier League fixtures thus far and showed signs of picking up from exactly where the dominant last season in the Championship ended when they thrashed Aston Villa 6-0 at home a little over a fortnight ago.

On Saturday, they welcome Blackpool, who also gained promotion after a successful last season in the Championship.
