Chelsea star Michael Essien has laid the marker down to his club’s opponents, cautioning that Carlo Ancelotti and his men are eyeing Champions League success. UEFA’s highest club honor has eluded the Blues to this point, but with what appears to be their best squad ever, Essien believes they can win any competition they enter.

“As a team, we have won every domestic trophy and so it’s only natural that we have the hunger for the European Cup.” Essien said to the Daily Star.

“That is not to say we don’t care about the Premier League, FA Cup or Carling Cup.

“We want to win every competition we enter this season – and we will do all we can to win them all.”

While the likes of Michael Ballack and Joe Cole left the club over the summer, the squad as a whole has come together and started the season in blistering form. They have already resumed their spot at the top of the Premier League, and most pundits have already tipped them to defend their Premiership crown.

Chelsea is the only club to maintain a perfect record after the opening three rounds of fixtures, and play resumes on the 11th of September with a close trip to Upton Park to play West Ham.
