According to reports, representatives from Italian side Lazio have flown into Manchester to secure a loan deal that would send City striker Roque Santa Cruz to the Serie A. Goal.com is reporting that Igli Tare, the director of sport for the club, is locked in negotiations with the club ahead of the new Serie A season.
Manchester City management is working hard to offload players ahead of the close of the transfer window as they strive to cut the squad to the mandated size of 25. Roque Santa Cruz has fallen out of favor at the club since the departure of Mark Hughes, and he has consistently found himself linked with a departure from the club.
Lazio coach Edy Reja, meanwhile, has publicly confirmed Lazio’s interest in the Paraguayan.
“He [Santa Cruz] is one of the players we are interested in and we are evaluating,” he said.
“There are two or three alternatives too. We have to find an economic solution.”
The Serie A outfit will face stiff competition for Santa Cruz’s signature as the likes of Newcastle and Fulham are reportedly interested in the striker. Craven Cottage could be an attractive destination for Santa Cruz as he would once again get to team up with Mark Hughes.
