City could opt for Given loan deal to Celtic

By | 16th August 2010

Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given is yet to figure out his future, but if the Sunday Mail is to be believed, the Citizens are eyeing a potential loan deal that would send the Irish shot-stopper to Celtic. Given is reportedly interested in a temporary deal that would send him to Celtic Park.

While Given is widely respected as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers, his spot at the City of Manchester Stadium has come under threat by the emerging Joe Hart. Hart, an England international, was spectacular in City’s season opener against Tottenham on Saturday, and 23 years of age he’s only expected to get better.

Given has previously stated that he’s not willing to play understudy to Hart this season, but he is adamant that he wants a chance to return to City after a loan deal to prove himself.

“Ideally I would like to stay at the club because it’s a big club and an ambitious club, with fantastic owners and I want to be part of that, that’s why I joined in the first place,” Given said earlier this month before the season kicked off.

“Possibly, if I didn’t start, then there could be a loan and then I’d come back and see where that takes me.”

Arsene Wenger is also rumored to be interested in luring Given to the Emirates, but City are hesitant to sell the Irish international to fellow Premier League contenders.
