Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has revealed his delight at extending the contract of Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta. While the Toffees haven’t brought any expensive signings to Goodison Park this summer, Kenwright is delighted that they’ve managed to keep their most prized assets at the club.
“After already tying up the likes of Tim Cahill, Jack Rodwell, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman on long-term deals we have now agreed terms with one of the finest and most influential players in our recent history,” Kenwright said of his side’s summer business.
He went on to stress the importance of Arteta to the club, hailing him as one of the finest players to ever don the blue jersey of Everton.
“Mikel Arteta is one of the finest players ever to wear an Everton shirt and over the past few weeks his pride in wearing that shirt has helped our conversations hugely,” he revealed.
“Alongside several others in the squad we are both passionate Evertonians.”
The Toffees aim to improve on their form of last season, and with a fully fit squad people are expecting the Toffees to better challenge the top four. The addition of Jermaine Beckford has also bolstered David Moyes’ front line, and they’ll surely be hoping for an opening day win at Ewood Park against Blackburn on Saturday.
