Following an unexpected and thrilling promotion campaign, Blackpool players are still waiting for their bonus money. Gordon Taylor, the PFA’s executive chief, confirmed that Blackpool is yet to pay their squad the promised bonuses, but he stressed that the green light for payment should come on August 6th.

The announcement is a positive sign for fans and players alike as the Premier League newboys look to avoid the financial mishaps clubs like Portsmouth have suffered.

“We are aware of the situation at Blackpool,” said Taylor.

“It has been reported to the Premier League and to the Football League.

“It looks like it will be paid in the first instalment of central funding from the Premier League when it comes through (on the 6th of August).

“I am confident that it will be paid. The club have told us that it will be.

“The players are not worried. They have been re-assured that it will be paid. I’m not sure if it’s at the level that has been reported but it is a big big bonus that needs to be paid.

“It has been a nice little surprise for Blackpool to get themselves promoted but they have to live up to the agreement.”

A report from ITV states that some players are owed sums totaling over £400,000 each in bonuses from their promotion campaign.
