Real Madrid midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart has dismissed reports linking him away from the Santiago Bernabeu. The Dutchman, who began his stint in La Liga only two seasons ago, insists that he wants to prove himself under new manager Jose Mourinho.

“I’m determined to stay at Real Madrid. I want to stay here and succeed at Real. ” Van der Vaart said in an interview with De Telegraaf.

Although he was also being tipped strongly by the German media to move to Bayern Munich in a deal that would send Bastian Schweinsteiger to Madrid, Van der Vaart singled out the English media for misquoting him as being interested in a move to either Liverpool or Chelsea.

“It’s a shame that the English press has misquoted me. They’ve written things that are simply not true”, he clarified.

Van der Vaart had a strong World Cup in South Africa earlier this summer and his contribution to Holland’s impressive run all the way to the tournament final has not gone unnoticed. In addition to all the interest he is attracting from other clubs, he has also won the all-important vote of confidence from Mourinho, which is a feat he didn’t achieve under former boss Manuel Pelligrini.
