Big news emerges from Anfield

First of all, who in their right minds would offer Liverpool’s French striker David Ngog an astronomical salary for £2 million per year? According to The Mirror, the player is holding out for that particular amount, which is why it comes as no surprise that Reds boss Roy Hodgson is having difficulty offloading the player.

Ngog, who was controversially accused of diving to win a penalty during a victory over Birmingham City last November, was being pursued by West Bromwich Albion. However, the Baggies were also ruled out of the one-horse race to sign him when Hodgson asked for a £6 million transfer fee as opposed to the loan move that was being proposed.

It is widely believed that the former Fulham manager is already rebuilding his attack as he prepares for the inevitable departure of want-away Spanish striker Fernando Torres. Although El Nino will command a fee in the region of at least £50 million, it seems that Hodgson wants additional funds to further boost his squad and in turn, ensure that the Merseysiders start the season as legitimate contenders.

One player who has been linked in particular with a move to Anfield is Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan. The Uruguayan, who led his team to the World Cup semifinals with performances that were eventually rewarded with the Golden Ball, has expressed a desire to stay with the Europa League champions but according to The People, a £15 million bid may prove too difficult to resist for the La Liga outfit.
