Mancini: “We have opportunity to win Prem”  | read this item

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has further stirred the pot ahead of the new season by astonishingly suggesting his side has a chance to win the Premier League this coming season. While he erred on the side of caution by refusing to say his side will definitely win it, he pointed out that the rigors of the World Cup allows his side a special chance to finish top of the table.

“Football is strange, especially after a World Cup. I don’t know if winning the league is possible,” Mancini said.

“I want to wait to make that judgment until the market has closed and the Premier League has started. My feelings are good, though.

“If we can put together a team in the short time available, then we can [win it]. The difference is that we will have bought about four, five or six players. Other teams will have the same teams as they had last year. I must put new players together in a short time – for that it would be better if I had all the players together before that.

“In my experience, I know after the World Cup in every country there can be a different situation in the league, but I think we have a big opportunity to win the league if we believe in ourselves and do our jobs,” he concluded.

Roberto Mancini also hit back at those claiming his side are ruining the game by spending too much money, insisting that people are just scared of a new challenge in the Barclays Premier League.

“All the other teams are saying this because for 10 years there were only four teams challenging for the title. This year, there are five,” he said.
