Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has revealed his delight following his side’s friendly win over French giants Lyon. The Serie A outfit defeated Lyon 2-1 over the weekend, and for Juventus it was a significant match as their season begins shortly in the Europa League qualifiers with a match against Shamrock Rovers.

“Yesterday’s match at Cosenza against Lyon represents a positive sign for us, as the team prepares to commence the season,” Del Piero said to TuttoSport.

“Our season will begin very shortly, as we take on Shamrock Rovers in Dublin in the Europa League qualifications.

“I am pleased with my performance, and that of the squad. The opponent was very strong, and in good physical condition.

“The match was conditioned with the sending off of [Aly] Cissokho in the first half, but other than the result, it was a positive match for us. We had other things we wanted to achieve during the match, and did so,” he concluded.

Juventus were disappointed to finish in seventh place in the Italian league last season, but they still managed to narrowly beat out Parma for Italy’s final European spot.

Juve will take on Shamrock Rovers, who have thus far knocked Israeli side Bnei Yehuda out of the tournament with a 2-1 aggregate win in the first round of qualifiers.
