New Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has stated that he enjoys the physical aspect of the game, thus making him a strong fit for the challenges awaiting in the Premier League. The Gunners have struggled to respond to the rough playing style of teams such as Bolton and Blackburn in recent years. More importantly, Arsene Wenger’s men have also been accused of getting hurt too easily.
As he prepares for next week’s Emirates Cup, Koscielny is ready to change that all. The Frenchman believes that playing against Europe’s elite clubs such as AC Milan and Lyon will provide him with the chance to show that he can shine at the highest level.
“I like physical challenges and I’m a player that can anticipate situations. I feel that I read the game well and one of my strengths is challenging for the ball in the air,” Koscielny told Arsenal’s official website.
“However, being at Arsenal, I know that I will have to work harder on all of those points to reach a higher level. I just hope I will be able to play and give my all to win both our matches in the Emirates Cup.
“We play against two very big clubs in AC Milan and Celtic, and I can’t wait to wear the Arsenal shirt at Emirates Stadium,” he added.
Following the Emirates Cup, Koscielny and his new teammates will travel up north to square off against Liverpool at Anfield in their season opener on August 15. Therefore, regardless of how well Arsenal’s latest recruit performs in the Emirates Cup, the true litmus test of his ability to deliver at the highest level will come at Merseyside in about three weeks.
