Veteran England international David James is set for talks with Celtic manager Neil Lennon over a possible move to Parkhead. The Hoops recently lost the services of first-choice goalkeeper Artur Boruc as the Pole chose to sign with Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Since Boruc left the club in a deal that occurred very suddenly, his compatriot Lukasz Zaluska had to deputize in the goal during the Bhoys’ North American tour. But in a long season that involves participation in the UEFA Champions League as well, Lennon is looking forward to adding the experience of James to his youthful squad.
The former Manchester City and Portsmouth goalkeeper has also been on the receiving interest of Premier League clubs, particularly Sunderland. An exciting offer to ply his trade in the SPL, though, can lure James towards Glasgow. At least that is what the Hoops manager is counting on.
“He’s hopefully coming up on Monday to have talks and look at the place and we’ll take it from there,” Lennon said in an interview with Sky Sports News.
Celtic will be in Portugal to take on Sporting Braga in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier before departing for London to take part in the Emirates Cup. During their stay in North London, the Bhoys will square off against hosts Arsenal and French Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
Therefore, one thing James can be absolutely sure about is that there is quite a lot to look forward to if he decides to become a part of the Celtic squad in the coming days.
