Inter Milan full-back Maicon refuses to get carried away with all the speculation linking him to Real Madrid. Former Nerazzuri boss Jose Mourinho has been keen on bringing the Brazilian to the Bernabeu ever since taking charge in Madrid a few weeks ago. But despite his willingness to reunite with the ’Special One’, Maicon has no problems remaining at the San Siro in case the transfer talks reach a halt.
After winning the treble with Inter last season, Maicon traveled to South Africa as a key member of Brazil’s World Cup squad. Although the South American giants were eliminated in the quarterfinals, the highly acclaimed player cemented his reputation as arguably the best right-back in the world.
Having failed with their bid to lure Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, officials at Real Madrid are now determined to add Maicon to their roster. Currently, Inter’s asking price of approximately £30 million is perceived to be the primary bottleneck, which is precisely why the Brazilian is prepared to continue playing under Rafa Benitez at the Serie A club.
Speaking to Radio Globo, Maicon said: “The deal is delicate. Before I went to the World Cup I spoke with my agent and Inter. If I go then I will do it with my head high and I would be happy either way.”
He added: “With Inter I have a contract until 2014. Madrid? I have already worked with Mourinho and I would like to be coached by him again. I would go to Madrid, but it doesn’t depend on me.
“I would like to stay at Inter. I would not be frustrated as the club have given me visibility on the international stage. It depends on the clubs,” he concluded with humility.
