According to The Mirror, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is lining up a reunion with Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho, who was brought to Stamford Bridge by the ‘Special One’. Last season, Mourinho attempted to lure Carvalho to Inter Milan for a £5 million transfer fee, only to see the offer rejected by his former employers.

He won’t mind that, though, as he went on to win the UEFA Champions League for the second time in his career last year. Now that he is at the Bernabeu, though, Mourinho appears to be mindful of the club’s fragile defense and aims to bolster the team’s back-line with another £5 million bid for Carvalho.

Carlo Ancelotti can certainly be expected to react with major hesitancy to this the offer, though. Even if the player himself is willing to become a Galactico, he has to understand that his stable partnership with John Terry will make it very difficult for the Blues to give him up. Branislav Ivanovic and Alex have both impressed when asked to step up, but there is no doubt that Carvalho’s pairing with skipper Terry is the mainstay of the West Londoners’ discipline in the back.
