When he had to choose between staying in London via means of joining either of the North London clubs, or moving up north to become a Liverpool player, Joe Cole chose the latter option. To express his excitement over sealing a deal reportedly worth at least £80,000 per week according to the Daily Mail, Cole immediately traveled to Switzerland to accept the decorated number 7 shirt from Roy Hodgson.

The shirt was earlier made famous by the likes of Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish, and it appears that any chance of a first Liverpool title in almost two decades is now resting on the shoulders of their new number 7. Not only is Joe Cole expected to form an enviable partnership on the wings with the likes of Maxi Rodriguez and Dirk Kuyt, but Reds boss Roy Hodgson is hoping that the England international’s arrival at the team’s training base will inspire skipper Steven Gerrard to commit his future to the club as well.

Cole is set to have a medical in Switzerland before being unveiled as Liverpool’s second signing of the summer after the acquisition of Milan Jovanovic. Besides Gerrard, other unsettled players in the squad include the injured Fernando Torres and Inter Milan target Javier Mascherano. Meanwhile, Emiliano Insua is about to join Fiorentina for a transfer fee of approximately £5 million and Fabio Aurelio has also been told to look for a new club.

Get rid of Konchesky, preferably to a team not based in the UK and replace him with Marcelo, Bridge or Baines. Also, we need a world-class striker and a good right-winger!

  4. KelvUK says:

I hope we get Arda Turan for LW that would make my Summer. Sell Masch if he wants to go and get Benega to replace him and spend remaining cash on aStriker like Sergio Aguerro. Squad numbers could be…Cole 10, Jovanovic 11, Turan 7, Benega 20, Aguerro 14, Skrtel 6, Wilson 22 and Figueroa 3.

    YNWA,
