Lukas Podolski turned quite a few heads in this summer’s World Cup, which prompted Europe’s elite teams to make an effort to convince the player away from modest Bundesliga side FC Cologne. Leading the chase for the former Bayern Munich forward have been both the Manchester clubs. Podolski, however, has slammed the door on a move abroad, reiterating his desire to stay in the beautiful city of Cologne.
Committing his future to the team he rejoined from Bayern last year, the 25-year old told Express: “Of course there are enquiries from other clubs, but I’m not interested. I want to take a big step with my club in the coming season.”
He added: “Perhaps we will even cause a surprise and qualify for the Europa League. Our wonderful fans deserve that.”
Besides the Premier League, Podolski has also attracted interest from Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus but as the player’s agent mentioned a few days ago, he remains focused on improving his domestic club career in Germany before thinking about offers from foreign clubs.
Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan, who had a poor spell at Manchester United early in his career, also refused to quit his current club Atletico Madrid for bigger prospects. Forlan cited similar reasons to Podolski as well, insisting that the right decision for his career was to continue to grow with Los Rojiblancos.
