Henry: "It was a no brainer"  | read this item

Major League Soccer’s newest player, French legend Thierry Henry, insists that it was an easy decision to join the budding league. Henry left Barcelona to join the New York Red Bulls earlier this week, and it has led to some English newspapers calling the MLS a “retirement league.” Despite all of the claims, Henry is glad he crossed the Atlantic.

“I had it in my mind for maybe four or five months that coming here was the only option for me,” Henry said. “I’ve met some people who came to MLS before and played for this club.

“I played with a guy you know well, Youri Djorkaeff, and know Claudio Reyna too. For me there was not any other option than Red Bull New York. I wanted to represent New York. I love this city. It was a no brainer for me.”

Henry joins a club that has never won an MLS title, but his four year contract means that he’ll have time to help the club develop into challengers. The former Arsenal striker says trophies are on his mind.

“I can assure you I have come here to try to win, that is the most important thing,” he said. “I am a competitive person and I’m sure the boss can put a team out there to do it.

“I want to thank the league, the club and Red Bull for bringing me here to make my dream come true. I’ve wanted to come here for a little while now and I hope you can all enjoy my game.”
