As Manchester City continues to rebuild ahead of the new season, reports are indicating that the Citizens could be turning their attention away from Aston Villa’s James Milner and towards Everton star Mikel Arteta. Goal.com reports that City are unwilling to meet Aston Villa’s astronomical price for Milner, and Arteta’s future could be in doubt at Goodison Park.
Manchester City have been desperately trying to sign James Milner so he can team up with newcomer David Silva in midfield, but Aston Villa have remained firm during negotiations. The Villans have already rejected an attractive £20 million bid for the England international, but City refuse to give in to demands of £30 million.
Arteta, meanwhile, could view Manchester City as an ideal destination considering his age and goals. The Spaniard is yet to be capped by his nation, and on the heels of their World Cup winning campaign he is desperate to play a part. At 28 years of age Arteta could have one big move left in him, and with City looking to challenge for trophies it would be a chance for Arteta to increase his stock.
Goal.com reports that Arteta would be available for a price in the region of £20 million.
