Bayern Munich’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has brushed aside any worries of a post-World Cup hangover for his players. Bayern players played key roles in this summer’s showcase, with the spine of the German side coming from the team nicknamed Hollywood FC.

Even outside of the Germans, Bayern players were scattered throughout the tournament, including Dutch finalists Arjen Robben and Mark van Bommel.

“I’m not worried that we might mess up the start, although it obviously won’t be easy. Our World Cup players are now taking a three-week break, which isn’t a lot after the season they’ve had,” said Rummenigge.

“But I’m sure the coach can cope, and I’m sure we’ll play well and win games from the first day on. I’m optimistic, I think we’ll get off the blocks well.”

There has been a lot of transfer speculation concerning the Champions League finalists, with rumors of players going in and out. The Germans are reportedly interested in signing Dutch star and Ajax player Gregory van der Wiel this summer, and his arrival could open the door for Philipp Lahm’s potential move to Manchester United.

There are also newspaper reports linking the Bavarians with a move for United winger Ji-Sung Park, who had an excellent World Cup campaign with South Korea.

Nonetheless, Rummenigge insists he is happy with the current squad.

“As we’ve always said, we have great faith in the current team. We have great players in all areas of the team.

“Our success last season rather proves that point. If we were to do anything, it would be in one defensive position. But we’ll have to wait and see,” he concluded.
