Manchester City’s big money summer signing, Yaya Toure, made headlines not just for trading La Liga for the Premier League, but also for becoming the league’s highest paid player. Reports mark Toure’s pay package at £200,000 per week, and the staggering sum has turned more than a few heads around England.
Nevertheless, the brother of City defender Kolo Toure insists that he will prove he is worth every penny. The midfielder is set to team up with the likes David Silva, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Carlos Tevez at the City of Manchester Stadium, and he says he hopes to be there for a long time.
“I’ll prove I’m worth every penny,” Toure told The People.
“I will never speak about my salary but a player is paid very well based on excellent performances and my desire is to make a big impact at Manchester City.
“The directors at City have told me they will not be losing any of their big stars.
“I think Carlos Tevez will stick with us, and I also believe Robinho will return because he has such quality.
“My dream is to play at this club for many years now because I am tired of moving around.”
Some newspapers have gone as far to suggest that there is already a schism at the Champions League hopefuls over Toure’s astronomic wages, with some media sources saying that Carlos Tevez is unhappy at the deal and will demand pay parity.
Roberto Mancini has a lot of work to do in order to get his new team to gel in time for the new season, but the Citizens will be looking forward to their season opener away to Tottenham.
