Spurs closing in on Bellamy  | read this item

Tottenham are finally set to clinch the signing of Welsh forward Craig Bellamy from Manchester City for £6 million. The news comes as a massive boost to Harry Redknapp as he prepares the Spurs for a huge season ahead in the UEFA Champions League. On the other hand, Everton boss David Moyes must be frustrated at the inability to match City’s asking price.

For whatever it is worth, though, Redknapp has at least assured his Toffees counterpart that the North Londoners will not be pursuing winger Steven Pienaar, as previously reported by several media sources. Instead, the Spurs manager insisted that his club remains interested in former Chelsea winger Joe Cole.

Speaking to Talksport, Harry clarified: ”I like Pienaar, don’t get me wrong. But there is nothing there. I wouldn’t see that as being a real goer.

“We’re interested in Joe. If the chairman can pull a deal off I’d love to have him at Tottenham. But it all comes down to if we can do a deal,” he added.

“I don’t get involved in the financial side; the chairman can do that with Joe’s people. Hopefully there is a deal that can be done because we would love him at White Hart Lane.”

Regardless of how well Tottenham’s squad prepares for the next season, Redknapp expects the going to be a lot tougher considering Manchester City’s aggressive investments this summer.

“It’s going to be even harder to make the top four, that’s for definite. Manchester City could quite easily win the Premier League. If they get the players in now, they’ve already got the nucleus of a good team,” said Harry about Roberto Mancini’s side.

Speaking of Mancini, he is truly in a mood to continue the club’s massive spending spree, particularly to fill the void left by Bellamy’s impending departure. In addition to his eagerness to reunite with Inter striker Mario Balotelli, the former Nerazzuri boss is also keen on acquiring Wolfsburg’s highly prized Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko as well as being linked with an ambitious bid for Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

The Italian told the Daily Mail: “If Inter sell Balotelli, we’ll be there. In Dzeko, City have more than a ‘simple’ interest. Dzeko and Balotelli together to Manchester City? It is a good idea!”
