Harry Redknapp may have known Joe Cole since the England international was only an aspiring 11-year old at West Ham but new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is also looking forward to introducing himself to the former Chelsea star. According to The Sun, Hodgson has identified Cole as the ideal playmaker for a rebuilding Reds side but also acknowledges that the Anfield outfit faces an uphill battle to convince the player to move up north.
At White Hart Lane, Redknapp will offer Cole a lot more than coaching familiarity. The additional perks include the tempting idea of staying in the capital and most importantly, participating in the Champions League next season. Nevertheless, Hodgson is not amongst the gaffers who give up in their pursuit for challenging objectives.
Therefore, it is understood that the former Fulham manager is looking forward to explaining the futuristic vision of the Merseyside club to Cole with hopes of persuading the player towards an agreement. One of the key components of Hodgson’s pitch to the winger will undoubtedly be the club’s potential to hold on their most prized assets on the field, namely Fernando Torres and skipper Steven Gerrard.
The Sun adds that Hodgson is also pursuing Honduran full-back Maynor Figueroa. The Wigan player, who played in all three of his country’s World Cup games this summer, is expected to cost approximately £6 million. Most of the funds for the transfer are already available through the recent £5.5 million sale of Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun to Joe Cole’s former club Chelsea.

As much as I would love this to be true, I feel it’s unlikely. Other reports today are saying the complete opposite and those, I feel, are more likely.
