One of the biggest surprises of this summer’s World Cup was the excellent form of Japan. Driven by Keisuke Honda, the Japanese made an unlikely run out of the group stage before a heart-breaking loss to Paraguay on penalties in the round of sixteen. Now, Honda is hoping to bring that good form and fortune into his club career as his agent has indicated he is open to a move to a big European club.
Honda currently plies his trade in the Russian league with CSKA Moscow, but rumors are abundant that Italian giants AC Milan are interested in his services. The Rossoneri apparently liked what they saw during Honda in the World Cup as he scored two key goals for his country en route to the second round. Honda showed his free kick ability as he scored the tournament’s nicest set piece, and he notched a second against Denmark to complete the 3-1 result that saw the Japanese advance.
“There are rumours abound but no one has contacted us or CSKA,” said Honda’s agent.
“In football you never know what can happen but right now not many clubs have great economic resources and I think that’s also true for Milan.
“He plays in a beautiful city for an important club, but obviously if there are offers from big European clubs it’s difficult to say no. At this time there are no bids and all in all he is happy at CSKA. We’ll see.”
