Dutch legend Marc Overmars has stirred the pot further ahead of his nation’s quarterfinals clash with Brazil. The two square off in just a few hours, and Overmars is adamant that the Oranje have nothing to fear against the rampant Brazilians.
“We don’t need to fear them! They have the name and the reputation but they’re not as good as they were,” the former midfielder said to WorldCupBlog.org.
“In 1994, they had Romario and Bebeto! In 1998, Ronaldo. These lads were phenomenon. Today, they lack that quality. Robinho can’t tie their shoelaces and Fabiano is an ok striker, that’s all. But, Friday it will come down to the form of the day. If we have six players in top form and Brazil one less, we will win it.”
While Overmars remains optimistic about his side’s clash against Brazil in the quarterfinals, he is less than certain about Holland’s chances in the semifinals that await the winner.
“In the poll I’m doing with my mates, Holland didn’t make it into the finals. Argentina plays Spain and Spain wins the gold,” said Overmars.
“I’m a big Spain fan. Totally impressed with their game two years back and love to see the Barca-spirit in this side. Holland will reach the semis in my little prediction although I forgot who beats them… But, we make it into the semis, so we will beat Brazil this Friday!”
