Former England boss suggests winter break  | read this item

Sven Goran Eriksson just experienced World Cup elimination as Ivory Coast manager but still took the oppportunity to discuss the struggles of his former team, England. The Swede, who also coached Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League not too long ago, has gone on record to say that the Three Lions continue to underperform as a result of the fatigue that accumulates in a long domestic season with no breaks.

“I don’t think there is anything wrong with English football. The only thing I was fighting for (when I was in charge) was a winter break, but because of money the Premier League never accepted that,” Sven told the Victoria Derbyshire programme on Radio Five Live.

“England is the only country in Europe without a break and when it comes to these big tournaments they are suffering for it,” he added.

With that being said, Sven won’t mind another tiring season in the Premier League if he ends up landing the prized role of the new Fulham boss following Roy Hodgson’s prospective departure to coach Liverpool. However, as always, Eriksson is not willing to go into too much detail about this issue just yet.

“I have heard some rumours but there are absolutely no facts behind it. I think they have a brilliant manager and I do not know if he is staying or, as rumored, going to Liverpool, but so far I have heard nothing,” he concluded.
