Man City chase American World Cup star  | read this item

English Premier League giants Manchester City are rumored to be hot on the heels of United States superstar and World Cup standout Landon Donovan. The attacking midfielder had an excellent World Cup for the Americans, scoring three goals in his side’s four matches.

Donovan is no stranger to the Premiership after his successful loan spell last January at Goodison Park. The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder became an instant fan favorite with the Everton faithful, and a great showing in the World Cup raised his stock further.

Now, The Mirror reports that Manchester City want to clinch a permanent move for the American as boss Roberto Mancini builds for the coming season. City narrowly missed out on the fourth and final Champions League spot, but with money to spend this summer they aim to rebuild a side that is expected to perform even better next season.

The Citizens have nearly clinched the signing of Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure, and the move would see the Ivorian join his brother Kolo at the City of Manchester Stadium. The Eastlands outfit are also being linked with a potential move for James Milner in addition to Landon Donovan, which would give the club a plethora of options in the midfield.

Manchester City take on Sporting Lisbon in the New York Football Challenge in the United States at the end of July before they square off against the New York Red Bulls on July 25th. They begin their Premier League campaign away to Tottenham.

Well I certainly hope Landon Donovan doesn't sign for Man City this summer. I never really liked Donovan until he did his loan spell at Everton. I gained even more respect for him this World Cup when he "grabbed the bull by the horns" and almost single-handedly brought USA to the second round. But now Man City? As a United fan, nothing could make me go back to disliking Lando more than him joining Man City.
