While Inter players are stillĀ revelingĀ in their Champions League second round victory over Chelsea, Inter president Massimo Moratti insists that the high praise must go towards manager Jose Mourinho. The self proclaimed “Special One” was heavily rumored to be on the way out of the San Siro if his side failed to progress, but has now established himself in the club’s good graces.
“Mourinho was the most decisive for us this evening. He had the courage to make certain choices over the past few days, and because he also put a very good team on the pitch,” said the Inter president.
“We will savour this victory. This win will be a good foundation for the rest of the season, as the players showed a strong will to win.
“Despite the loss to Catania, I had faith in the side. The road ahead is still long, and we will remain attentive every step of the way.”
Inter advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time after four years of European failure, and it appears the club’s decision to hire a Champions League expert paid off. The club also exchanged their most prized asset in Zlatan Ibrahimovic to bring in a more Champions League-oriented Samuel Eto’o, and it was the Cameroonian that put Chelsea to the sword last night.
