On-loan Everton star Landon Donovan has revealed he is hoping his loan deal can be extended until the end of the season from Los Angeles Galaxy. The American has made an immediate impact on the Everton squad and has established himself as a firm fans’ favorite in nine appearances, scoring two goals.

Should his loan extension not be completed, Donovan, 28, could have capped his final Goodison Park appearance coming on as a substitute and scoring in his side’s 5-1 thrashing against Hull.

Having initially agreed to join the Toffees on loan in January and return on March 15th, the forward has since expressed his desire to remain in Merseyside for the rest of the season. After his possible final appearance in an Everton shirt, he said: “First of all, winning was important and it’s nice to get a goal, there is a chance (of staying). We will know more this week. If that was it then I’m happy. Maybe we can stay a little longer, we’ll see.

The USA international added: “The fans, the people here are fantastic, the players are fantastic. I’ve enjoyed it here tremendously.” His manager David Moyes is also keen to retain the services of Donovan. “I said to him ‘go on and finish with a goal.’ I thought he finished it great. The effort he has put in for us over the past two months has been terrific,” Moyes said.

I hope it’s not his last game (at home). He’s certainly good for the game next week against Birmingham.

“I might try and see if I can extend it a little bit longer but, at the moment, the word from America is that it won’t be possible and we respect that decision.”
