AC Milan’s experienced midfielder Clarence Seedorf has praised his teammates for their performance against Manchester United on Tuesday, suggesting that the Rossoneri have a great chance of progressing to the next round. The Dutch international seemed to be happy about losing at home to the reigning Premier League champions, choosing to ignore the eight minutes that saw Wayne Rooney put the Italians to the sword.

“We saw what Milan achieved over 90 minutes, now we’ll need to dominate out there in terms of possession, creating as many chances as we did tonight and hopefully being more clinical,” said Seedorf.

“That was the only thing we were missing, as the first half was spectacular. United showed tonight they have limitations and we must make more of them.

“We put United under pressure and they struggled. When they are not in control, they have problems, so I don’t see why we cannot win at Old Trafford.

“I don’t want to talk about those minutes [where Rooney scored], as they did not represent our performance.

“We did so much well and created many chances. United had five shots on goal and scored three of them. That says everything.

“United made some incredible mistakes, but they can play this way because they know that they have Rooney who can get them out of trouble.

“The team did very well, these are special games, but the side played an excellent first half.

“I always say we have to go there and attack them, to really hurt them, which is something we can do better. I think we will have that grit in the second leg, as we were lacking that for a while tonight.”

Does Milan really stand a chance at Old Trafford? Have your say below!

  1. Mike Diamente says:

Milan had control of the game in the first half and looked to be easily the better side until the Scholes goal, which i don’t think anyone can argue was pure luck….

with that being said, United dominated the second half, with Rooney continuing his great form…

Milan probably will not win with tie, and I’m saying this as a Milan fan

  2. Shane says:

I’m telling anyone this now,had Milan not of scored as early as the 3rd minute,Utd would of strolled through this tie. By the 60th minute it felt like men against boys,Man United were strolling through that midfield like the Milan players had ball and chain around their ankles. At OT I predict a riot.

BTW Seedorf sounds bitter as hell…Fletcher was the match winner yesterday and has performed to that level all season..Rooney done what he does best…

  3. iain clark says:

As a Milan season-ticket holder and die-hard fan, it will be nigh impossible to come through this tie. I believe that we can pose United many problems at Old Trafford but our 4-3-3 set-up, whilst being productive in attack, results in massive gaps in midfield which any decent team can exploit. The athleticism and functionality of Man U will be too much for Milan’s patient passing game. Last night, Park on Pirlo as a man-marker was a stick-on and hats off to Fergie who stuck Valencia up against the sub Favalli. Don’t think Man U will win the Champs League even with Vidic and Giggs to return though.
